Finding a Design You Like – DIY (Do It Yourself Stlye!)
While picnic tables look very similar for the most part, when you are looking at plans for a picnic table you need to make sure that the table will meet your needs once it is done. Some table designs are much shorter than others, or they are narrower than you might like. You just need to double check the plans before you start building.
Look closely at the measurements that are shown on the blueprint and pull out your tape measure if you need to see just how big it will be. This way you know if you need to alter the blueprints to match your needs or if you should find a different set to work off of.
Also keep in mind that you could opt to choose picnic table plans that looks very different from the average backyard table. You could choose a square table with detached benches, or a hexagonal table with benches that have a 45 degree angle in the middle of them. What you build is completely up to you, and there are plans available for anything you could want.
Keep in mind that you aren’t stuck with a table once you’ve built it. If you find plans for a picnic table that you like, but you feel you aren’t ready for that complicated of a project, you can always build a simpler picnic table to hone your skills. Once you are ready to build the nicer table you can sell the old one, or just have more room for friends and family.
Plans for a Picnic Table: Some Tips on Building Your Table
Hopefully your plans for a picnic table will give you some pointers on getting the best results, but there are a couple things you can do to make your table extra nice.
One is to sand everything you can before you put the table together. This is good advice for a lot of woodworking projects since it can be difficult to sand certain areas once everything is put together. But if you are going to round the corners of the boards that make up the table top, save this until the end. This will make it easier to get the same edge on all the boards.
Once everything is put together and sanded, make sure that you treat your table. While this may be an obvious way to wrap up your plans for a picnic table, too many people leave this step undone, and their table only lasts a season before it is too cracked and warped to be of any use.
If you have some good resources at your disposal, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding plans for a picnic table that you like. Once you have your plans you just need some materials and a little time in order to have a great place for you and your family to eat out whenever you want.
