Have you ever wanted to build your own furniture? Such as a new bookcase or a coffee table? Or Perhaps a Gazebo or a Shed? Well, I looked at websites out there that provide these woodworking projects. Overall, I chose to review further Teds Woodworking among the many choices out there. Join me as I discuss the pros and cons of Teds Woodworking. First, what is Teds Woodworking?

What is Teds Wood Working About?

This woodworking product was developed by Ted “Woody” McGrath, a professional woodworker, educator and an AWI member. Over a 2 year period he worked to gather from various sources 16,000 plans for all types of wood working projects. In addition to this Teds Woodworking continued to evolve by adding videos and a membership site that he believed was important for those who enjoyed the craft.

Is Teds Wood Working Worth it?

Well, there are some things that you have to aware of. First, while it may be more expensive than some woodworking programs out there Teds Wood Working does offer quite a bit. At a price of $67 shown on the Official Teds Woodworking website at the time of this review, it’s not that bad given the comprehensive plans that you are provided. Now some of the issues that I uncovered on this program include being potentially overwhelmed by 1,000’s of plans that Teds Wood working offers. You may believe that you could get lost with a ton of files and trying to figure out where everything goes. However, what is great about Teds Wood Working is the way that they categorize their woodworking plans. This way you can find things as you need to fairly quickly. The one down side also others experienced was that the download was slow when you purchased it. However, once you have the files downloaded…then it’s on your computer and you can then just go from there through or click on the appropriate category to find the right plan. There is also a DVD that has Teds Wood Working package that can be helpful too. Lastly, if you choose to purchase Teds Wood Working, I would recommend that you consider printing them on for easy access as opposed to viewing on the screen. Unless, of course you have easy access to a portable computer to reference.

Another great part of Teds Wood Working is that it was made for the beginner and provides the scalability of plans for the expert. Let me explain this more. What I find quite useful is that it has easy to understand directions and it shows the blue prints and materials that are needed in enough detail. So, this way you don’t end up with a furniture piece that might not be finished…I’m not too thrilled when the directions I’m reading have omissions that need to be interpreted mid-way through the project. Luckily, Teds Wood Working makes this part easy with clear to follow instructions, step-by-step color pictures in some of their documents, and if you need help there is a life time membership area that I’m sure can be helpful if you find yourself in a bind. Note, I did notice that were some frequently asked questions, however, for the most part it appears fairly straight forward so I didn’t see a lot of activity in their forum. To add to this though…I have had a good experience when contacting Teds Wood Working and getting a quick response from them so again perhaps there are not that many questions on this product. One last thing that I will mention is that Teds Wood Working is a product that has been around for awhile and even won The Woodworking Association’s Reader’s Choice Award in 2009…which is definitely a plus. How To Start a Woodworking Business – This is a book actually written by Ted Mcgrath and as is his usual style he provides a step-by-step guide on how to make money doing what you enjoy. From marketing your wood working services to licensing, etc…

Teds Wood Working Bonus #4:

Complete Woodworking Guides – This is a 200 page book from basic to advanced craftsmenship with some great items that you can make. Learn additional tips and tricks and get even a greater understanding of techniques he uses. Again, I’m only describing this briefly here, however, it is a nice bonus that you can at least be able to use…unlike some programs that provide a lot of bonuses that take space and never get used in your home or on your computer.

Overall, in my review of Teds Wood Working I would say is that they have worked quite hard to provide a very comprehensive program for all levels of woodworking. If you are new to woodworking this is a great investment, in that, you have so many resources to getting you started quickly with books, videos, and online help. And as you progress, for those that are experts, you know you can get many plans available in one place…so you don’t waste time having to search through magazines, etc…to try to find the right plan, plus there are some nice bonuses too that doesn’t hurt.
